The Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University will host Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, this weekend. The facility, Richmond’s first major arts institution dedicated to contemporary art, opened last month.

The tour is scheduled for Saturday, May 26, at 1 p.m. at 601 W. Broad St. Members of the media will have the opportunity to photograph the prince, but no interviews will be granted. Media are asked to meet at the Belvidere entrance at 12:30 p.m.

An architect by trade, Richard is the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and a member of the royal family. He undertakes hundreds of engagements in the United Kingdom and overseas each year. Richard is associated with more than 150 charities and organizations.

The ICA at VCU is a noncollecting institution that showcases a fresh slate of changing exhibitions and programs. Located at the intersection of Richmond’s Belvidere and Broad streets, the ICA anchors one of the city’s busiest gateways in a building designed by Steven Holl Architects with dual entrances to the city and campus. The ICA is a significant new cultural resource for Richmond, in addition to offering a vital dimension to the research university.
