Provost Search Update

To the VCU community,

The search for VCU’s next provost and senior vice president for academic affairs launched today with my charge to the search committee. We will be recruiting ideal candidates to build on the strong foundation of student success and academic excellence established by Gail Hackett, who announced earlier this year that she is retiring as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the conclusion of this academic year.

School of Social Work Dean and Professor Beth Angell and Senior Vice President of Health Sciences and CEO of VCU Health System, Arthur Kellermann, have agreed to serve as committee co-chairs. We have engaged the services of Storbeck Search, who are a part of the Diversified Search Group, to support the committee’s work in recruiting top candidates.

The search committee is committed to an inclusive process that involves several opportunities for input from the university community, especially as we begin the search. This includes forums, an online survey, and several meetings with key university governing and stakeholder groups, such as the Faculty Senate, University Council, Council of Deans and the Black Education Association.

The provost search website at hr.vcu.edu/careers-at-vcu/search/leadership-searches/provost-and-senior-vice-president-for-academic-affairs/ provides information on the search committee, opportunities for feedback, the search process and timetable. I particularly want to emphasize the online survey that is available for immediate response at www.surveymonkey.com/r/VCUProvostSearchSurvey.

Once formally posted, the position description also will be available on the website. At that time, confidential applications and nominations will be accepted until the position is filled.

We will keep you updated on the progress of the search for VCU’s next provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Sincerely,

Michael Rao, Ph.D.
President, VCU and VCU Health System
