Resident, medical student win awards at national medical meeting

A resident at the VCU Medical Center and a student from the VCU School of Medicine received awards for their presentations at the annual American Medical Association Interim Meeting’s research poster symposium. The meeting was held last month in Las Vegas.

Candice McDaniel, M.D., a resident in orthopedic surgery at the VCU Medical Center, won first place in the basic science competition with her presentation, "Biomechanical Consequences of Fibrin Sealants in Nerve Repair."

First-year medical student Anshu Shukla, a Northern Virginia native who did his undergraduate work at Duke University, won the Neurobiology/Neuroscience category award for "A Model for Studying Vasogenic Brain Edema Using Intra-arterial Mannitol Infusion."
