April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Virginia Commonwealth University and the VCU Health System are partnering with Fear 2 Freedom, a global, non-profit organization working to help victims of sexual assault, for an event on campus.
“Where is the Line?” Celebration Event will be held on Monday, April 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Larrick Student Center on the MCV Campus, 900 Turpin St. All media attending will be escorted and should arrange details in advance.
Student volunteers will assemble 500 kits containing toiletries, clothing, toys and sexual assault educational information and resources for adult and child victims of sexual assault. The finished kits will be transported by ambulance to the VCU Medical Center Emergency Department.
Event speakers include Rosemary Trible, Fear 2 Freedom founder, and Debbie Smith, rape victim, public speaker and catalyst of the Debbie Smith Act of 2004, which provides U.S. federal grants to states and local governments to conduct DNA analyses of backlogged DNA samples collected from victims and criminal offenders.
The Fear 2 Freedom campaign urges college students to take action to help put an end to dating violence and sexual assault.
