Twenty-six students from across Virginia participated in the annual summer residential Governor’s School for Life Sciences and Medicine this month at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The intensive four-week Governor’s School program hosts high school students at VCU and VCU Medical Center who are interested in pursuing health care careers.

This year’s GSLM featured opportunities to learn about health care in areas ranging from dentistry, epidemiology and pharmacy to pet therapy and medical communications.  Also, the program added a community engagement aspect this year that included making blankets for the VCU Massey Cancer Center, packaging meals for Stop Hunger Now and selling lemonade for Anthem’s LemonAid fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
