Surgery professor exhibits award-winning presentation at World Congress of Surgery

Virginia Commonwealth University Associate Professor of Surgery Michel Aboutanos, M.D., (center) presented the winning poster and oral presentation at the International Society of Surgery’s 43rd World Congress of Surgery earlier this month in Australia.

Aboutanos’s presentation, “Ratification of IATSIC/WHO's Guidelines for Essential Trauma Care assessment in the South American region,” detailed work Aboutanos and colleagues performed in Equador. The paper was one of six accepted out of hundreds of international abstracts submitted.

Aboutanos is director the Injury Prevention and International Trauma System Development programs in the Department of Surgery’s Division of Trauma/Critical Care.
