Ten VCU students receive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Ten Virginia Commonwealth University students have been awarded scholarships through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program for study abroad during the summer of 2015.
Jade Andrews, a junior majoring in international studies in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will participate in the UVA in Lyon Summer program in Lyon, France. Andrews is from New Kent.
Ardilla Deneys, a sophomore majoring in interior design in the School of the Arts, will participate in the Danish Institute for Study Abroad program in Copenhagen, Denmark. Deneys is from Richmond.
Kia Jordan, a junior majoring in fashion merchandising in the School of the Arts, will participate in the CAPA Global Business program in Shanghai, China. Jordan is from Richmond.
Jasmine Juette, a junior majoring in anthropology in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will participate in the VCU Paleoanthropy in South Africa program in Cape Town, South Africa. Juette is from Gloucester.
Cherell McManus, a junior majoring in marketing in the School of Business, will participate in the American Institute for Foreign Study in San Jose, Costa Rica. McManus is from Dumfries.
Joseph Patterson, a senior majoring in psychology in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will participate in the VCU Atlantic History and Culture program in Bridgetown, Barbados. Patterson is from Chesapeake.
Megan Samples, a senior majoring in international studies in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will participate in the VCU Atlantic History and Culture program in Cave Hill, Barbados. Samples is from Woodbridge.
Denisha Scott, a junior majoring in fashion merchandising in the School of the Arts, will participate in the CIS Aboard program in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Scott is from Charlottesville.
Shauna Leigh Spencer, a senior majoring in psychology and gender, sexuality and women’s studies in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will participate in the VCU Global Scholars/Activist Spaces program in Chiapas, Mexico. Spencer is from Yorktown.
Andrea Ward, a junior majoring in sociology in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will participate in the VCU Contemporary Social Challenges in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Ward is from Norfolk.
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program supports undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
The scholarship program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Institute of International Education.
