Three students from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Radiation Sciences recently won scholarships from national organizations.

“These awards indicate the quality of the students in the department’s programs and opens the door for future scholarship applicants,” said Jeffrey Legg, Ph.D., interim chair in the Department of Radiation Sciences.

Kerry Gravely, a radiation therapy major, received the Doris Asbury Scholarship, awarded by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The scholarship recognized Gravely’s academic abilities as well as her guidance as president of the VCU chapter of the sorority.

Nuclear medicine major, Elsamani “Sam” Abdelfadiel, received the Royce Osborne Minority Student Scholarship. This scholarship of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists’ (ASRT) Educations and Research Foundation provides scholarships for minority students who excel in academics and attend an entry-level radiation sciences program.

Senior Amy Aurand, a radiation therapy major, received the Varian Radiation Therapy Scholarship, also awarded by ASRT. The Varian Radiation Scholarship Program provides funding for academically prominent students who are enrolled in an entry-level radiation therapy program.
