Three VCU Students Receive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Three Virginia Commonwealth University students have been awarded scholarships through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program for study abroad during spring 2013. Each student received a scholarship of up to $5,000 and a total of $13,000 was awarded.

Jeffrey Caesar, a senior majoring in political science in the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will study at the School of International Training in Kathmandu, Nepal. Caesar is from Fairfax Station.

Joseph Morina, a senior majoring in biology in the College of Humanities and Sciences, will conduct biological research at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. Morina is from Virginia Beach.

Sean Ruecroft, a junior majoring in kinetic imaging in the VCU School of the Arts, will study at the University of the West of England. Ruecroft is from Richmond.

Curtin University of Technology and the University of West England participate in partnership exchanges with VCU coordinated through the VCU Global Education Office.  

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program supports undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

The scholarship program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and Institute of International Education.
