Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Education recently hosted the first Metro Children's Art exhibit. The event, which coincided with March's National Youth Art Month, was an effort to establish stronger relationships with the four Richmond area school divisions and remind future teachers and leaders of whom they are preparing.

"We were delighted to have the wonderful participation of the young artists from Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and Richmond Public Schools along with their families, principals, teachers, superintendents, alumni and friends from the community," said Diane Simon, Ph.D., associate dean of student affairs in the School of Education.

The exhibit was held in VCU's School of Education in Oliver Hall and featured four floors of K-12 children's artwork. Student musicians dressed in formal wear and performed classical and jazz selections as parents and teachers viewed the art and ate refreshments. Each artist also received a certificate of recognition.

William C. "Bill" Bosher, Ed.D., dean of VCU's School of Education, was instrumental to the success of the exhibit and gave congratulatory remarks to the young artists, their families, alumni, and guests. In addition, Bosher was presented with an original piece of artwork created by one of the students in the Richmond Public Schools.
