VCU Celebrates New Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center

Virginia Commonwealth University will hold a celebration of its new Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Evaluation Center with special guests from the Movers and Shakers, a Richmond-area Parkinson’s Disease advocacy group.
The celebration will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the VCU Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Evaluation Center, 6605 W. Broad St.
The new center combines treatment, education, research and outreach to provide a coordinated approach for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and other movement disorders. The multidisciplinary team includes specialists from neurology, physical therapy, speech therapy, neuropsychology and gastrointestinal physiology.
Remarks during the event will be made by Michael Rao, Ph.D., president of VCU; Jerome Strauss, M.D., Ph.D., dean of the VCU School of Medicine; James Bennett, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the VCU Department of Neurology and director of the VCU Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Evaluation Center; and Charles Bryan, Ph.D., a member of the Movers and Shakers.
