The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has been named to the fourth annual Honor Roll by the Center for Companies that Care, one of 27 companies nationwide selected for the quality of its work environment.

Honor Roll recipients are selected for their commitment to elevating the quality of the work environment for their employees and the quality of life for the people in the community as well as adhering to the 10 Characteristics of a “Company that Cares.”

The VCU Health System was recognized in part because of its efforts to help employees with child-care and other work-life issues, according to the Center for Companies that Care, the nonprofit organization that creates the Honor Roll.

“This is another affirmation that we are recognized as a leader in work-life balance and family-friendly benefits and programs,” said Maria Curran, director of Human Resources for the VCU Health System. “Having this recognition helps reinforce the hard work and strives we have made as a health system to be an employer of choice."

The Honor Roll is announced annually on the third Thursday each March to coincide with Companies that Care Day, which celebrates businesses that prize employees and are committed to community service.

The VCU Health System was one of 27 companies in the United States named to the Honor Roll. Other honorees this year include AAA Mid-Atlantic; Convergent Technologies LLC; Office Depot Inc.; Ohio Savings Bank; TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc.; and The Supply Room Cos.

The Honor Roll is selected by an independent panel of veteran professionals in a variety of industries, recognizing companies based on characteristics such as encouraging individual pursuit of a work-life balance, establishing and communicating ethical behavior and integrity and considering the human toll when making business decisions.
