Deborah Davis, former president of Pitt County Memorial Hospital, has been named chief operating officer at MCV Hospitals, part of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. Davis, who will begin her position July 16, was chosen after a national search.
In her role as chief operating officer, Davis will lead the day-to-day hospital operations, compliance, capital construction and other key responsibilities to meet strategic objectives of the VCU Health System.
Davis’ career spanned 32 years at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, N.C., the flagship hospital for University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina that also serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. She was named PCMH president in 2002, after serving in several executive positions, including senior vice president and vice president for rehabilitation services.
“I am delighted to announce that Deborah will be joining the VCU Health System’s executive team as the chief operating officer of MCV Hospitals,” said John Duval, chief executive officer of MCV Hospitals. “She brings a remarkable record of achievement with her from Pitt County Memorial Hospital that we know will be repeated at VCU.”
Under Davis’ leadership, PCMH earned Magnet recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and was recognized by Working Mother magazine as one of the 100 best workplaces for working parents. Solucient, a national health data management firm, has ranked PCMH among the top 100 hospitals in the country in recent years.
Davis is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has been named to Oxford’s Who’s Who in Business and an outstanding Young Leader in Allied Health in the United States. She is a member of the national Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems Administrative Board, and serves on the American Hospital Association’s Committee on Health Professions. She is active in the Greenville Rotary Club and serves on the board of directors of the Ronald McDonald House.
Davis is an officer of the BB&T Leadership Institute and a director of the Small Business Development Center, both at ECU. She served on the board of University Healthsystem Consortium and continues to serve on the Wachovia Advisory Board. She serves on numerous boards of not-for-profit organizations, such as Pitt Community College Foundation and the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce.
