The Virginia Commonwealth University Women in Science student organization is hosting a local Girl Scout council for the first science career day at the MCV Campus.

The Women in Science Girl Scout Science Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Medical Sciences Building at 1217 E. Marshall St.

More than 100 14- and 15-year-old Girl Scouts will go on an interactive tour of the MCV campus, including simulation labs in the VCU School of Nursing and the School of Dentistry. The girls will have the opportunity to learn about careers in the health sciences from graduate students and faculty.

The day will end with a scavenger hunt designed to show the girls a broad range of career possibilities in science and to give them the opportunity to interact with women already in the field. For this hands-on activity the participants will have a list of questions and will seek answers from faculty members and graduate students stationed at various booths. Once their mission is complete, each girl will receive a merit badge designed by VCU Creative Services to add to their sash.
