The Virginia Commonwealth University Institute for Women’s Health will hold the 6th Annual Women’s Health Research Day, a networking opportunity celebrating and promoting excellence in interdisciplinary women’s health research.
The event will take place Wednesday, April 7, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building, Room 104/105 and Auditorium, 1217 E. Marshall St.
All VCU faculty, students, staff or community members with an interest in women’s health research are welcome and encouraged to attend.
This year’s symposium event titled “The Art and Science of Bridge Building: Promoting Translational Research in Women’s Health,” will focus on the new era in National Institutes of Health funding in multidisciplinary women’s health research. Faculty presenters will discuss women’s health research under way at VCU and share information about resources.
The event features a poster competition with awards presented to researchers in basic, behavioral and clinical sciences. The Elizabeth Fries Young Investigator Award will be presented for the best poster overall. The Building Interdisciplinary Bridges in Women’s Health Research award is new this year and will be awarded for the research that best demonstrates interdisciplinary investigator collaboration in women’s health. Attendees will have an opportunity to view women’s health research posters and a reception will follow.
The VCU Institute for Women’s Health is one of 20 National Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health designated by the Office on Women’s Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The National Centers of Excellence serve as demonstration models for the nation providing innovative, multidisciplinary and integrated health care systems for women.
