The Virginia Commonwealth University Institute for Women’s Health will host the 8th Annual Women’s Health Research Day, a celebration and promotion of research excellence in women’s health at VCU.
The event will take place on Wednesday, April 4, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the John L. Larrick Student Center, 900 Turpin St., on the MCV Campus.
All VCU faculty, students, staff or community members with an interest in women’s health research are welcome and encouraged to attend.
This year’s plenary event, titled “From Bench, To Bedside, To Community: Focal Topics in Women’s Health Research,” will showcase interdisciplinary and translational research conducted by VCU faculty researchers. Presentation topics will include allergic disease in women, stress and poor birth outcomes, stigma, mental health and HIV risk in transgender adults, and post-traumatic stress disorder in individuals exposed to a variety of potentially traumatic events.
The event features a poster competition with awards presented to researchers in basic, clinical and social behavioral sciences. The Elizabeth Fries Young Investigator Award will be presented for the best poster overall. The Building Interdisciplinary Bridges in Women’s Health Research award will be awarded for the research that best demonstrates interdisciplinary investigator collaboration in women’s health. Attendees will have an opportunity to view women’s health research posters and a reception will follow.
