VCU Medical Center Presents Fall Seminar Series

The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center will present a series of free educational seminars for the community this fall, featuring medical center experts providing important health information, sharing their expertise and answering questions on a variety of current topics in health care.
The lectures will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Education and Library Complex, 1800 Lakeside Ave. The seminars are free and open to the public, but registration is required. For more information, or to register, call 804-828-0123.
The following seminars will take place in September:
Sept. 13 – “Prostate Health,” presented by Mitchell Anscher, M.D., VCU School of Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology, and Vernon Orton, M.D., Division of Urology at the VCU Medical Center. Anscher and Orton will discuss recent developments in making radiation treatments for prostate cancer safer. They also will discuss minimally invasive treatments for prostate cancer.
Sept. 20 – “Hypertension Care,” presented by Domenic Sica, M.D., director of the Hypertension Clinic at the VCU Medical Center. Sica will discuss the latest advances in hypertension care, including how to best diagnose and treat elevated blood pressures.
Sept. 27 – “Everything You Need to Know About Thyroid Disease,” presented by David Gardner, M.D., Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the VCU Medical Center. Gardner will discuss the functional disorders of the thyroid, including hyperthyroidism. He also will discuss anatomic disorders, such as goiters and thyroid nodules, as well as how these issues can be evaluated and treated.
