The Virginia Commonwealth Medical Center and the Medical Reserve Corps will showcase a Stabilization and Transportation in Place unit to demonstrate mobile emergency disaster relief.

The STIP unit will be on display Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. behind Bear Hall, located at 600 N. 10th St.

Designed for rapid, on-site patient stabilization and treatment during an emergency, a STIP mobile unit is housed in three tents and is equipped with six to 12 beds and full capabilities to perform surgery at a disaster site.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the unit and meet with members of the Richmond Medical Reserve Corps — local medical and public health professionals who contribute their expertise to community needs. MRC members also will be recruiting for health professional volunteers to serve in the greater Richmond area.

Other organizations that will be present include the Virginia Department of Health, Richmond City Health District and Central Virginia Health Planning Agency Inc.
