VCU Medical Center to Present 2011 Cybersecurity Fair

The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center will present the 2011 Cybersecurity Fair, which is designed to provide information security education and training to the VCU and health system communities.

Free and open to all VCU faculty, staff, students and the medical community, the event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Tompkins-McCaw Library on the MCV Campus, 509 N. 12th St.

Keynote speakers will include Kevin Stine, information security specialist, National Institute of Standards of Technology, who will discuss the role of standards in healthcare security; Karen Remley, M.D., state health commissioner, who will examine the future of the health information exchange in Virginia; and Phyllis Schneck, chief technology officer, McAfee Associates, who will talk about linking machines and humans to secure IT.

In addition to learning about cybersecurity, attendees also will learn about the ways to protect their personal information from cybercriminals, as well as ways to secure their electronic devices at home and at work.

Technology vendors will be on site to demonstrate the latest technologies and IT support staff will be on hand to answer technology and security related questions.
