VCU memorial service for former dean of nursing

RICHMOND, Va. – A memorial service to celebrate the life of Doris Beaumont Yingling, Ph.D., R.N., dean emeritus of the VCU School of Nursing, will take place at Monumental Church, in the 1200 block of E. Broad St., on April 26, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. Yingling died January 3 in Columbus, North Carolina.
She lead VCU’s nursing program for 23 years, retiring in 1981. During her tenure, Yingling established the first graduate program for nurses in Virginia, and the first formal research office in a school of nursing. Her extraordinary service and contributions to the school earned her the Medal of the VCU Founders Society and the highest award from the Virginia Nurses’ Association, the Nancy Vance Memorial Award.
A reception will follow at the VCU School of Nursing at 1220 E. Broad St. Memorial gifts may be made to the Doris B. Yingling Research Endowment Fund at VCU’s Medical College of Virginia Foundation, P.O. Box 980234, Richmond, VA 23298.
