VCU Reunion Weekend Planned for April 24-26

Virginia Commonwealth University will welcome alumni back to campus for its annual Reunion Weekend on April 24-26.

Numerous events are planned over the course of the weekend, during which the Class of 1984 will celebrate its 25th anniversary and the Class of 1959 will celebrate its 50th anniversary. VCU alumni of the Monroe Park Campus from the classes 1982-86 are invited to attend the celebration, as are MCV Campus Alumni for the MCV Campus Reunion Weekend and RPI alumni for the annual RPI Alumni Reunion. The African-American Alumni Council Reunion also will be held during the weekend. 

“Reunion Weekend is an ideal opportunity for alumni to return to VCU not only to remember the great times they had here but to check out the many exciting new developments on campus,” said Gordon McDougall, assistant vice president of university alumni relations at VCU. ”We have a lot of fun activities planned for them.”

Among the highlights of Reunion Weekend are a welcome reception and cocktail buffet on April 24 at the Colony Club, 10 E. Franklin St., and an alumni dinner on April 25 honoring the classes of 1959 and 1984 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 200 N. Boulevard.

  • Theatre VCU Performance of “Chicago” (April 24, 7:30 p.m., Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.)
  • VCU Dance presents its Spring 2009 Senior Project Concert (April 24, 8 p.m., Grace Street Theater, 934 W. Grace St.)
  • A bike ride from the VCU Student Commons to the Osborne boat landing (April 25, 8 a.m., VCU Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave.)
  • A tour of the new 25,000-square-foot laboratory at the School of Engineering (April 25, 10 a.m., School of Engineering West Hall, 601 W. Main St.)
  • A bus tour of campus and the community, including Church Hill, the Canal Walk and the newly renovated Capitol (April 25, 10:30 a.m., departs from Robertson Alumni House, 924 W. Franklin St
  • Bio Ritmo Concert at Shafer Court (April 25, noon, Park Plaza next to Hibbs Hall, 900 Park Ave.)
  • School of Engineering Alumni Picnic and Class of 2004 Engineering Reunion (April 25, noon, School of Engineering East Hall Lawn, 401 W. Main St.)
  • “Passport to the World,” international coffees and teas and dessert while learning about travel destinations sponsored by the VCU Alumni Association (April 25, 2 p.m., Commonwealth Ballroom, VCU Student Commons)
  • Yearbook and Memorabilia Sharing (April 25, 2 p.m., James Branch Cabell Library Special Collections, 4th Floor, 901 Park Ave.)
  • Casino Night (April 25, 9 p.m., Omni Richmond Hotel, 100 S. 12th St.)
  • RPI Farewell Breakfast and Memorial Tribute (April 26, 9 a.m., Robertson Alumni House)

The MCV Campus Reunion Weekend includes special events for the schools on the medical campus, as well as general activities, such as an MCV Campus History and Garden Tour and the MCV Alumni Association of VCU Annual Meeting, which will feature an awards ceremony for outstanding alumni.
