Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Dentistry will hold the 2007 Dr. Cyril R. and Evelyn F. Mirmelstein Lecture, "Doing Well –  Doing Good: Preamble to Ethics in Practice."

The lecture will take place Thursday, Aug. 30, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the George Ben Johnston Auditorium, 305 N. 12th St.

This year's guest speaker is Charles Bertolami, D.D.S., dean of the New York University College of Dentistry.

Bertolami's diverse roles in dental education and research include current service as president-elect of the American Dental Education Association and past service as president of the American Association for Dental Research.

His research and scholarship focus on wound healing and connective tissue, but more recent contributions pertain to curricular reform, the teaching of ethics and the significance of research in dental education and practices.

Cyril R. Mirmelstein, D.D.S, a 1942 graduate of the VCU School of Dentistry, established the lecture series, which has become a permanent part of the school's curriculum. The lectures are aimed at enhancing the teaching of ethics and professionalism.
