VCU Seeks contestants for first VCU Idol competition

Vocal contest in the tradition of American Idol open to current VCU students, faculty and staff

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University will be holding auditions for VCU Idol, Oct. 28-30, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Siegel Center, ALLTEL Pavilion, 1200 W. Broad St.  VCU Idol is a singing contest in the tradition of the popular Fox reality TV series, American Idol. 

The competition is open to all current VCU students, faculty and staff.  Judges will select 16 contestants who will compete at halftime during this season’s VCU Men’s home basketball games at the Siegel Center.  Two winners from the semi-finals competition will advance to the finals, which will take place Feb. 21, 2004, during VCU’s last game of the season.

The VCU Idol grand prizewinner will receive $2,000, 10 hours of recording studio time, a beauty makeover and a professional model portfolio. The grand-prize winner’s university sponsor also will receive $1,000. The runner-up for VCU Idol will receive $1,000 and their university sponsor will receive $500.
