A team of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business students captured the CFA Virginia Investment Research Challenge and will compete against other state champions in the North American Regional Challenge on April 30 in New York.

Each member of the winning VCU team received a scholarship for the Level I Chartered Financial Analyst Examination. Team members include Ian Bennett, Tracey Bristow, Joseph Grim, Esteban Gutierrez and David Sutherland.

The competition, which was held April 10, was sponsored by CFA Virginia, the local professional organization for security analysts and portfolio managers. The challenge required a written investment research analysis of Owens & Minor and an oral presentation of the analysis, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Other schools competing were the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce, the William & Mary Mason School of Business, the University of Richmond Robins School of Business and Hampden Sydney College.

Mentors for the VCU team included David Upton, professor of finance at VCU, and Paul Carder, director and portfolio manager at Evergreen Investments.
