Theatre VCU presents “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” the famously irreverent musical comedy, starting April 7 at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts.
The grand production will close out Theatre VCU’s 2005-06 season with a bang, offering up heaping portions of vaudevillian comedy and addictive musical numbers composed by Stephen Sondheim. The large cast, whimsical costumes and elaborate set promise to captivate crowds.
The show will run under the veteran guidance of director Gary Hopper, the assistant chair of the Department of Theater, and choreographer Patti D’Beck, a movement and choreography professor. Hopper has directed more than 50 plays for the theater department over the course of nearly three decades, and D’Beck has worked on 13 Broadway shows.
General admission tickets are $15. Seniors, VCU faculty and staff tickets are $12. Tickets for VCU students are $5. Productions are scheduled for April 7-8, 13-15, 19-22 at 7:30 p.m., and April 9 and 16 at 2:30 p.m.
The W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts is located at 922 Park Ave. For more information, call (804) 828-2695. The Theatre VCU box office phone number is (804) 828-6026.
