VCU to Hold International Hydrogen Symposium
Share this story
Virginia Commonwealth University will host the International Symposium on Materials Issues in a Hydrogen Economy for researchers to discuss the fundamental scientific issues concerning the production, storage and use of hydrogen.
The event is Monday, Nov. 12, through Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Omni Richmond Hotel, 100 South 12th Street.
Approximately 150 research leaders from nearly 25 countries will be in attendance. The symposium provides the opportunity for researchers in physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering to share ideas and study results, discuss current challenges, and guide future research.
A critical need exists to tap into new energy sources that are abundant, renewable, secure, clean, safe and cost effective. Scientific findings indicate hydrogen may be a good energy resource. However, challenges exist in the production, storage and use of hydrogen in the transportation sector of the economy.
The symposium will also feature speakers from around the world who will address scientific, technological, societal, and economic implications of a hydrogen economy.
The event is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, VCU, the American Physics Society, the Materials Research Society, Dominion Resources Inc., Philip Morris USA, and General Motors.
