VCUArts offers mini-course on portraiture
Share this story
Virginia Commonwealth University alumna Loryn Brazier will present a VCUArts mini course entitled, "Portraiture: An Artist's View."
Using her work as examples for the course, Brazier will examine the process of portrait painting and address issues of interest to both painters and non-painters.
Brazier has been painting portraits professionally for 16 years. With trademarks for painting such as energy, color and light, Brazier says she approaches each portrait painting with the intention of creating a work that will be enjoyed for years to come.
A 1962 graduate of VCU's School of the Arts, Brazier also studied portraiture under portrait artist Everett Raymond Kinstler, who is best known as the artist who painted five U.S. presidents and other well-known personalities such as Tony Bennett, Carol Burnett and Paul Newman.
One of Brazier's works, a portrait of former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, was placed in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in February 2000.
Advanced registration for the course is required. The cost is $60, but free to members of the VCUArts League. Proceeds will benefit VCU's School of the Arts.
The course will take place March 18 and 25 from 6 -7 p.m. at Brazier Fine Art, 3401 W. Cary Street, Richmond.
