VCU's department of history to hold lecture on history of Christianity

William E. Blake, Ph.D., professor emeritus of history at VCU and noted authority in religious history will be presenting the tenth annual William E. and Miriam S. Blake Lecture in the History of Christianity.

The lecture entitled, "Heresy Today...Orthodoxy Tomorrow: The Role of Reason in Anselm, Abelard and Aquinas," will cover Blake's insights on the topic and will be followed by a discussion with the audience.

Blake received his doctoral degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond and came to VCU (then Richmond Professional Institute) in 1965 as a professor of history. He has previously served as acting chairman of the VCU department of history and helped organize the VCU Faculty Senate and the Virginia Faculty Senate, serving as the first president of both organizations. He retired as professor emeritus in 1992, but remains active in the VCU community by giving lectures and teaching history courses.

The lecture will take place on Tuesday Feb. 18 at 7 p.m., in VCU's Grace Street Theater, 934 W. Grace St. Parking is available in the West Broad Street Parking Deck, and a reception will follow in the VCU Bookstore.
