Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Photography and Film will offer "The Film Image," a special course in cinematography. Normally reserved for art majors, the course will be open to VCU students, faculty and staff members.
Organizers say the three-credit course will give students of all disciplines the opportunity to view a variety of important films including "Lost in Translation," "Apocalypse No/Redux," "The Last Emperor" and "True Stories." Students will be able to discuss the film's techniques and utilize the complete language of film and cinematography.
The course will be taught by David R. White, visual artist and adjunct faculty member in VCU's Art Foundation, Photography and Film and Honors Departments. White is a three-time recipient of a professional fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. His background includes still photography, mixed media constructions and screen writing.
The course will take place June 14 to Aug. 8 and will meet from 1 - 3:50 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in room 305 of the Pollak Building, 325 N. Harrison St. Students who wish to enroll in the course should contact the Department of Photography and Film at 828-1695 or visit room 206 of the Pollak building between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. for an override.
