RICHMOND, Va. — Ten Virginia high school seniors who have battled cancer will celebrate their graduation at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia Hospitals. The ceremony will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on May 19 in the Medical Sciences Building, 1225 E. Marshall St.

The seniors are all current or former patients of VCU’s Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic. While in the hospital, the students participated in the Hospital Education Program, working with teachers to keep up with their classwork while receiving treatment. Virginia’s First Lady Roxane Gilmore will recognize the students for their accomplishments, and their families, physicians, nurses, social workers and hospital teachers also will attend.

This year’s students are from Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and Prince George counties, and Richmond City. One student from Chesterfield County is scheduled to receive his diploma at the ceremony.
