VCU’s School of the Arts Cinematheque Fall Series Continues

Each semester the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts’ Cinema Program hosts an array of ten art films as part of its ongoing School of the Arts Cinematheque film series. The fall 2012 schedule of films features stunning contemporary, independent and foreign stories from the past 30 years.

This semester’s series began Aug. 28 and continues through to the final film, “Revanche,” which will be screened on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

The 35mm films are shown at the Grace Street Theater using the school’s state-of-the-art projecting system. The Grace Street Theater, which is located at 934 W. Grace St., seats 250 people in a stadium-seating layout.

VCUarts Cinematheque films are shown on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. The screenings are free and open to VCU students and the surrounding community on a first-come basis.

A modern twist on a classic noir thriller.

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia” by Nuri Bilge Ceylan – Sept. 18
Turkey, 2011
A murder mystery set in the ancient Turkish countryside.

Silent Souls” by Aleksei Fedorchenko – Sept. 25
Russia, 2010
A melancholy journey into one man’s past.

Punishment Park” by Peter Watkins – Oct. 16
USA, 1971
A controversial political commentary of the American culture of the 1970s.

Tropical Malady” by Apichatpong Weerasethakul – Oct. 23
Thailand, 2004
A fractured love story about the mystery and impossibility of desire.

The Arc” by Rob Tregenza – Nov. 20
USA, 1991
An existential road trip which begins its journey in Baltimore. (This film was written and directed by Cinema program director Rob Tregenza.)

Oslo, August 31” by  Joachim Trier – Nov. 27
Norway, 2011
A day in the life of a recovering drug addict.

Revanche” by Götz Spiellmann – Dec. 4
Austria, 2008
An Austrian thriller centered on vengeance and redemption.
