Jake Burns joined the Public Relations team in October 2024.
He serves as the public information officer for the VCU Police Department, where he oversees external and internal public safety communications, coordinates media requests/coverage and produces content focused on public safety initiatives for VCU News and social media.
Prior to joining VCU, Burns worked at Richmond’s WTVR-TV as a reporter/anchor for more than 14 years. He received five regional Emmys and two regional Edward R. Murrow awards during that time.
Burns is a graduate of Maryville College (TN), where he earned a bachelor's degree in writing/communications.
