Suzanne Havasy thought it was an honor just to be nominated for the Dorris Douglas Budd Award. Little did she know she would be the 2008 winner.

Peers, previous recipients and award finalists recognized Havasy as the 2008 winner on Tuesday. Havasy, coordinator of the Master in Health Administration program in Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Health Administration, has been a member of the VCU Service Awards Committee since 2001. In that time, she has been very involved and a committee member to count on.

Established in 1981, the award is named for a VCU secretary to the vice president of administration from 1951 to 1981. Budd’s commitment to the university and her initiative and enhancement of VCU's mission inspired the award, which honors outstanding administrative and support staff who demonstrate exemplary performance and enhance the image and mission of the university and health system.

VCU President Eugene P. Trani, Ph.D., presented the awards to Havasy and this year’s finalists, and commented that it is the quality of the faculty and staff that makes the university what it is and thanked them for all that they do.

The finalists were Curt B. Blankenship, VCU Department of Music; Violet R. Brown, Department of Pathology; Kimberly A. Christman, Department of Radiology; Wanda M. Hewlett, School of World Studies; Sabrina V. Montague, Department of Pediatric Neurology; Diana R. Pauley, Department of Psychology; Clara A. Sine, Office of Research, Technology Transfer; Carol Smith, Department of Pediatrics; Candice M. Tam, School of Social Work; and Catherine D. Yeatts, Department of Psychiatry.
