VCUarts Theatre will present the supernatural thriller “Let the Right One In” by Jack Thorne from Oct. 5-8 at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.
Directed by Wes Seals and adapted from John Ajvide Lindqvist’s best-selling 2004 novel and screenplay for the 2008 award-winning film, “Let the Right One In” tells the story of Oskar, a bullied, lonely teenage boy living in 1980s rural Virginia. A series of sinister killings rocks his small community. Eli, the young girl who has just moved in next door, doesn’t go to school and never leaves the apartment by day. Sensing in each other a kindred spirit, the two become devoted friends. What Oskar doesn’t know is that Eli has been a teenager for a very long time.
Expect a surprisingly sweet and tender story with moments of gruesome violence and bloodshed that “will wring your heart while scaring the mortal stuffing out of you,” according to a 2015 theater review in The New York Times.
Tickets are $15, with discounts available for students, alumni, seniors and the VCU community. VCUarts Theatre alumni can book two complimentary tickets to any performance in advance. All tickets are general admission.
The VCUarts Theatre box office is now cashless. Tickets can be purchased online or in person with a credit/debit card. All ticket holders should check in at the box office on arrival. It opens one hour before performances, and seating typically opens 30 minutes before performances.
