Children’s Hospital of Richmond this week will celebrate the opening of its new pediatric emergency room, the only one in Central Virginia to offer 24-hour access to all pediatric specialists.
The ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will take place Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. on the first floor of the Critical Care Hospital, 1213 E. Clay St., MCV Campus. Tours of the facility also will be available to media.
In addition to remarks, the ceremony will feature two young patients who were treated in our ER, including 12-year-old Jonathan Colson of Spotsylvania County – the victim of a lightning strike in 2009 while on a baseball field, and 2-year-old Lucy James, who suffered from a fractured skull this year after falling from a piece of playground equipment.
The new pediatric emergency department is part of the VCU Medical Center, which is the only designated Level I Trauma Center in Central Virginia. It will provide specialty care 24 hours a day in a state-of-the-art facility designed to meet the needs of children and their families by providing the highest level of pediatric emergency care in the region.
