International environmental artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude will discuss their current work in progress, "Over the River: Project for Arkansas River, Colorado," on Jan. 31 at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude are the featured guest speakers in the Windmueller Arts Series in VCU School of the Arts. They will appear at 6:30 p.m. at the W. E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Avenue.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude are widely acclaimed for their transforming monumental works of art using fabric. The artists do not accept grants, commissions, sponsorships or collaborations, as they place a high value on artistic freedom. They refuse all commercial involvement, instead funding their monumental projects with proceeds from the sale of Christo's original works of art.

The Windmueller Arts Series was established through a generous gift from the Estate of Otti Y. Windmueller. Windmueller received a bachelor of fine arts degree from VCU and taught fashion design for 29 years in the School of the Arts. The Windmueller Arts Series each year hosts prominent national experts who share their expertise in the arts with VCU students and members of the Richmond community.

Admission to the Windmueller Arts Series is free. Owing to limited space in the W. E. Singleton Center, the general public is encouraged to arrive early. For more information about admission for the event, please call 804.828.1755. For media inquiries, please call Tom Gresham at 804.828.6051.
