Expert on nonprofit groups featured speaker at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 25, 2004) – The head of the National Council of Nonprofit Associations will be the featured speaker at the 2004 Temple Executive in Residence Lecture, sponsored by the Virginia Commonwealth University L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
Audrey R. Alvarado, Ph.D., will discuss "The Public-Nonprofit Nexus" Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in parlors A-C of the VCU Siegel Center, 1300 W. Broad St. Her speech will explore how nonprofit organizations and government work together to solve problems in the community.
As the association's executive director, Alvarado advances the role of the nonprofit sector in the community, and supports state and regional nonprofit associations. She is the former associate dean for student and external affairs at the University of Colorado's Graduate School of Public Affairs. Alvarado also served as the executive director of Latin American Research and Service and was program director of the Hispanic Office of Planning and Evaluation's Talent Search program in Boston.

The annual lecture, sponsored by the Wilder School�s Public Administration Program, honors an outstanding professional in the field of public administration. It is named for T. Edward Temple, a former Richmond city manager, state executive, and advisor to four governors.
