Medical Resident to Conduct Hematology Research

Jawad Al-Khafaji, a medical resident at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, was selected for the American Society of Hematology’s 2012 Trainee Research Award. The award exposes trainees to hematology and research early in their careers with hopes of inspiring them to pursue hematology in their future research training.

The 44 trainees selected by the ASH each receive $4,000 to conduct research on blood and blood-related programs.

In December the trainees will travel to the 54th annual ASH meeting at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta where they will have opportunities to network and learn from leaders in the field.
