The Medical College of Virginia Alumni Association of Virginia Commonwealth University will host its annual nursing alumni conference and lecture on Feb. 10.
Sponsored by the association’s nursing division, the events will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the MCV Alumni House and Paul A. Gross Conference Center, 1016 E. Clay St.
This year’s conference theme is “Commitment to Excellence.” Featured conference topics will include nurse licensure compact, legislative initiatives to bridge the nursing shortage gap and gastric bypass procedures.
The conference was named The Sarah H. Cooke Alumni Nursing Conference in memory of Sarah Hill Cooke – the first African American woman to receive a Nursing Alumni Star Award from VCU and a mentor to many nurses throughout her nursing career and life.
In addition, the conference will feature the annual Mahoney-Hammer Alumni Lectureship, named in honor of two alumni, Anne F. Mahoney and Nora Spencer Hammer. This year’s speaker is Margaret Gallagher Lewis, president of HCA’s Capital Division. Gallagher will discuss “From the Bedside to the Boardroom: The Lessons of Leadership.”
The conference fee is $35. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The registration deadline is Feb. 3.
