NASCAR driver Ryan Reed, 22, will visit patients at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University to discuss the daily challenge of strictly managing his health and Type 1 diabetes while training mentally and physically to race professionally.
In February 2011, Reed received the life-changing news that he was living with Type 1 diabetes and he would never race again. However, he refused to give up his dream of racing and has since become an inspiration for millions of people living with the disease by continuing to pursue his goals while successfully managing his condition.
For the second consecutive year, Lilly Diabetes is supporting Reed and the American Diabetes Association’s Drive to Stop Diabetes?, a national diabetes awareness initiative. As part of the campaign, which aims to increase diabetes awareness and education, Reed will visit diabetes treatment centers while traveling for races.
