Marcus E. Carr, Ph.D., M.D., Department of Internal Medicine
Carr, professor of medicine and pathology, has been appointed to Governor
Warner's Hemophilia Advisory Board, where he will serve as a medical advisor/consultant.
The board provides input to various government agencies about the status
of Virginia's citizens with bleeding disorders. These disorders typically
require life-long medical follow-up and have the potential to cause significant
illnesses. In addition, Carr works with the Central Virginia Center for
Coagulation Disorders, which incorporates the Richmond Comprehensive Hemophilia
Care Center and Clinic, and the Special Coagulation Laboratory. The center
provides clinical care, helps coordinate health care resources and is
involved in research aimed at improving treatment of patients with bleeding
disorders. These activities are performed at the VCU Medical Center with
assistance and support of the Departments of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics
and Pathology.
Carroll Londoner, School of Education
Londoner has received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant in education
at Anton De Kom University in Suriname. The Senior Specialists Program,
which aims at increasing the number of faculty and professionals who have
the opportunity to travel abroad on a Fulbright, was created to complement
the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program that began in 1946. The Senior
Specialists Program offers two to six-week grants to leading U.S. academics
and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional
planning at academic institutions in 140 countries around the world.
