Panelists at VCU to Examine War in Iraq on Fourth Anniversary

Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs is hosting a panel of experts to discuss U.S. policy in Iraq in observance of the fourth anniversary of the war.

The panel discussion, "The United States in Iraq: Next Steps," will be held on March 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the parlors of the VCU Sports Medicine Center at 1300 W. Broad St. The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception.

Panelists include:

Rajiv Chandrasekaran, assistant managing editor for The Washington Post and former Baghdad bureau chief for the Post from April 2003 to October 2004. He also is author of "Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq's Green Zone."

Lawrence Korb, former Assistant Secretary of Defense and Director of National Security Studies for the Council on Foreign Relations. He now serves as senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. He wrote "A New National Security Strategy in an Age of Tyrants, Terrorists, and Weapons of Mass Destruction."

Jeffrey Record, professor in the Department of Strategy and International Security at the United States Air Force Air War University in Montgomery, Ala. He is author of the soon-to-be-released "Beating Goliath: Why Insurgencies Win."

William Newmann, Ph. D., associate professor and director of undergraduate programs for the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs and author of "Managing National Security Policy: The President and the Process."

The panel discussion is possible through a student engagement grant from the College of Humanities and Sciences.
