Next week Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan will unveil his eighth “Kerrigan’s Korner” at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU’s outpatient Children’s Pavilion. Kerrigan’s Korner, a program of Ryan Kerrigan’s Blitz for the Better Foundation, provides patients and families with access to technology as a means for relaxation and communication during their visit to the hospital. The Kerrigan’s Korner will be stocked with laptops, tablets and video game systems. CHoR’s Kerrigan’s Korner is sponsored by Virginia Linen Service and Schell Brothers.

“We treat the whole child and family, not just their illness,” said Katie Barber, certified child life specialist in the ASK Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic at CHoR. “Sometimes that means just helping kids be kids. Kerrigan’s Korner will provide an engaging distraction while patients are getting infusions, during long clinic visits or while parents have serious conversations about next steps in treatment. We’re thankful to Ryan and his foundation for helping us make the health care experience as positive and fun as possible.”
