Rep. Wittman to Deliver VCU’s Commencement Address

U.S. Rep. Rob Wittman, a Virginia Commonwealth University alumnus, will be the featured speaker at the university’s fall commencement ceremony next month.
Wittman, a Republican, first was elected to serve the 1st Congressional District of Virginia in December 2007. He was re-elected to his first full-term in November last year. Wittman serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources.
Before his election to Congress, Wittman spent 26 years working in state government, most recently as field director of the Virginia Health Department’s Division of Shellfish Sanitation. He served for 10 years on the Montross Town Council, including four years as mayor. He was elected to the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors in 1995 and was elected its chairman in 2003. He was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2005, serving until his election to Congress.
Wittman holds a doctorate in public policy and administration from VCU, a master’s in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina and a bachelor’s in biology from Virginia Tech.
Commencement exercises take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
