Earlier this semester, the School of Social Work launched a community
service initiative, “Community Reach Out,” to bring together faculty,
staff, students and alumni to work on service projects that benefit the
community. The goal is to add a new school-wide dimension to the
ongoing commitment to pursuing social and economic justice and helping
individuals and families in need. During the month of April, the group
is collecting food for the Central Virginia Foodbank.

Other “Community Reach Out” initiatives included a clothing drive to collect business attire for unemployed people to wear for job interviews. The group also collected items for the Daily Planet to support former hospital patients in need of care but who have no home or support system.
