Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of African American Studies and the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs present "An Evening with Dick Gregory" on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.
Gregory is a comedian, social activist, critic, writer and storyteller who uses his performances to share his views of civil rights.
Proceeds will go toward the M. Njeri Jackson Study Abroad Scholarship to fund African American Studies majors to study and learn about the people and cultures of the African Diaspora.
Jackson served as special assistant to the provost for diversity at VCU. She died in July following a 20-year career with the university, which included growing the African American Studies program into its current degree-granting status and promoting diversity and cultural understanding.
Tickets are $35 for the general public and can be purchased at:
- BreakPoint, located in the basement of the University Student Commons at 907 Floyd Ave. (Only credit card and RAMBucks transactions can be conducted here.)
- The Department of African American Studies, 1000 W. Franklin St.
- East End Family Resource Center, 2504 Jefferson Ave.
There are also a limited number of free student tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Department of African American Studies and at the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs. A VCU ID is required and one ticket will be given per student while supplies last.
