Virginia Commonwealth University's Child Development Center will present "Creating A Legacy of Pride Silent Auction," Friday April 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Scott House, 909 W. Franklin St.

"It's the only place I'm aware of where artwork of renowned artists is displayed alongside artwork of very young artists who might someday be renowned themselves," said Tish Colvin, co-chair of the Art Auction Committee. "It's like playing the lottery. If you hold on to one of the children's art pieces, you could own one of the first works of the next Van Gogh or Picasso."

Proceeds from the auction will benefit playground renovations for the Child Development Center. Featured items up for bid include artwork and crafts from children of the center including a festive platter decorated by children from one classroom; an original watercolor by Dr. W. Baxter Perkinson, Jr., rector of the VCU Board of Visitors and noted landscape artist; a ceramic piece by Allan Rosenbaum, professor, ceramics; various services and crafts such as knitted hats and sweaters, a Triathlon Moms membership; and a children's room makeover. A dessert reception and entertainment by the Huge Guitars of Oz Geier and Greg Marrs, an acoustic based pop/folk/country duo will begin at
6 p.m.

VCU's Child Development Center is a non-profit program accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
