Theatre VCU Presents

“Les Liaisons Dangereuses,” the renowned play of intrigue, sex, seduction and betrayal, is the latest high-caliber production of Theatre VCU, VCU’s theater department, which stages four productions each academic year.
The play, which was nominated for multiple Tony Awards during its initial Broadway run, is a portrait of 18th century amoral aristocrats engaged in decadent lives. VCU students Joseph Carlson and Jennifer Ferguson play the parts of Vicomte de Valmont and Marquise de Merteuil, respectively, who compete in the game of love as though it were a deadly game of chess.
Veteran director Tawnya Pettiford-Wates, associate professor, directs “Les Liaisons Dangereuses.” Among her directing credits are two previous performances of Theatre VCU: “for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf” and “The Grapes of Wrath.” She also appeared in the Theatre VCU production of “A Raisin in the Sun.”
Ron Keller, associate professor of scenic design, designed the set, and Joshua Quinn, an MFA candidate, designed the costumes. Both elements help create a sense of the lushness of opulent pre-revolutionary France.
Performances will be held on Nov. 13 and Nov. 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. and on Nov. 14 and 21 at 3 p.m. Ticket prices are: general admission $25; seniors and VCU faculty and students with valid ID $15; and group rates for 20 or more $20 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at vcutheatre.showclix.com, by phone at (804) 828-6026 or at the box office in the Singleton Performing Arts Center.
