Theatre VCU presents “The Who’s Tommy,” winner of five Tony Awards, this month at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.

The electrifying musical, which traces a young boy’s journey from tragedy to triumph, was borne out of The Who’s famous 1969 rock opera, “Tommy,” composed largely by Pete Townshend. Theatre VCU’s raucous performance will include a live band that will play such songs as “See Me, Feel Me,” “Acid Queen,” “Pinball Wizard,” “I’m Free” and “Tommy, Can You Hear Me?”

Barry Bell, assistant professor of acting and directing at VCU, will direct the performance. He previously has directed “Dracula,” “HAIR,” “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” and “Wait Until Dark” for Theatre VCU.

“The Who’s Tommy” has performances on April 8-10, 15-17 and 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. and on April 11, 18 and 25 at 3 p.m. In addition, Theatre VCU will hold three matinee performances for high school students. Ticket prices are: general admission tickets -- $25; seniors, VCU faculty and staff -- $20; VCU students with a valid ID -- $10; and groups of 15 or more -- $20 each. Tickets can be purchased at the Hodges Theatre Box Office on the first floor of the Singleton Center or by calling the box office at (804) 828-6026 or e-mailing theatretix@vcu.edu.
