TheatreVCU presents 'Dracula'

TheatreVCU presents “Dracula” from Nov. 8 to Dec. 1 in the Raymond Hodges Theatre, W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.
This new adaptation of “Dracula” restores the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker’s classic novel to the stage. As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the residents of London, they attempt to piece together the clues of his appearances and save themselves from a hideous fate. Rich with both humor and horror, this play, which was written by Steven Dietz, paints a wickedly theatrical picture of Stoker’s vampire.
Barry Bell, assistant professor, directs the production. Bell has directed more than 115 shows in his career, including “Lovers,” “Greater Tuna,” “You Can’t Take It With You,” “The Rainmaker” and “On Golden Pond.” He has directed three previous TheatreVCU productions. Bell’s acting credits include “The Odd Couple,” “American Buffalo” and “The Tempest” on stage, and “Matlock,” “Walker Texas Ranger” and “From the Earth to the Moon” on the screen.
Performances of “Dracula” are scheduled for Nov. 8-10, 15-17 and 29-30 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 11 and 18 at 3 p.m. and Dec. 1 at midnight. The show is not suitable for children ages 13 and under due to graphic content.
Ticket prices are $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors and VCU faculty and staff and $7 for VCU students with a valid student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Hodges Theatre Box Office, reserved by calling 804-828-6026 or e-mailing theatretix@vcu.edu.
